As Uber continued its aggressive global expansion marketing material often struggled to keep pace. Creating localized assets became an imperative as we strived to resonate with Riders in our new markets. Previously the Apple and Google app stores had a single English based image asset, which obviously was less than optimal for non-English speaking markets. A project was undertaken by me and my team to update these product screens for all 28 languages that the Rides app was available in at the time.
There were 5 product screens used to showcase the Rider app experience.
In each screen were several text and graphic elements which needed to be considered to ensure localization was both logical and relevant. This even included OS system UI such as time formatting.
Approved translation strings were provided by language specialists that were then typeset for each of the 5 images.
The end result was 140 unique assets delivered and an optimized customer experience.
